- Any Last Words?
Ladies and germs, the time has officially come: we’re gonna teach you how to roll a joint, a doobie, a sliver of peace, a smoke show classic, a J, a fatty, a soon-to-be roach, and whatever else the cast of cannabis connoisseurs call it.
For many, rolling a J is a rite of passage, a crucible that all canna-cosmonauts must endure to be crowned a chief cheefer. For others, it’s a lost art that’s been replaced with more accessible alternatives—ones that don’t require the headache (and heartache) of fallen buds. And for most, it’s just too damn time-consuming; “let me just smoke, will ya’?” Rolling can be tough, some say nearly impossible, but it’s worth the practice, frustration, and pursuit of perfection. Or is it?
Here, we’re gonna toe the line, play both sides, and teach the wanna-be rollers how to roll and show everyone else how to get to the finish line faster, with the help of cones and other TRĒ House-exclusive smoking accessories. Because, after all, we all just want to puff some buds with our buds. So, let’s get to the easy part first.
Skip the Hassel
Before we dive any deeper, this is a good time to mention that your smoke sesh can be simpler, more straightforward, and, well, just easier.
*Audience applauds*
We offer a range of products to help novice rollers craft a fine and dandy doobie. So, if you want to get off at this stop, gear up for a smoke break, and get to the fun faster, do so with a couple of these rolling alternatives!
Pre-Rolled Cones
Perhaps the easiest way to get a finely rolled, top-shelf J every time is with the help of pre-rolled cones. These cones are hollowed-out joints, fitted with rolling paper wrapped around a smoking filter. All you gotta do is sprinkle in your ground-up bud in the open end, pack it down, and twist the paper at the top. Make sure not to overfill the cone. Then, just look at the thing. Pretty cute, huh? Now, you’re ready to roll—and you’ve skipped all the headaches that come with rollin’!

Nūdle Cones
For a funky feel, our Nūdle Cones offer the same ease and speediness as our Pre-Rolled Cones but don a rotini noodle as a filter tip, offering a smoother pull. You fill these puppies up just like any other pre-rolled cone. Many 420-friendly fans say they love puffing these more than standard tips, adding that the noodle filters the smoke for an easy-breezy toke. Are they right? Well, you be the judge!

The Art of Rolling
Rolling a J begins with small, thin sheets of cigarette paper. These are rolling papers, and they come in a wide range of sizes, from king-size to standard 1 ¼”. Now, typically, these sheets are so thin they’re almost transparent. When you hold a crisp, new one in your fingers, it feels flimsy, almost delicate. But these papers are super durable, able to withstand the awkward movements of a newbie roller—if the paper is made right, that is.
The first step of your roller’s journey is key: you want to choose top-shelf papers from the outset. Anything else will rip easily, gifting you a lapful of ground-up bud. So, it’s best to choose high-quality papers that stretch and mold around the roll’s contents. Luckily, your neighborhood friends at TRĒ House have all the papers you could possibly need (or dream of), all made in France from natural plant fibers! Only the best for our TRĒ House, fam 😘

Rolling 101: Let’s Get Down to Biz-ness!
If you’re still here, perusing the interwebs for all the how-to know-how on rolling doobies, you’re in good hands (and so is your doobie). Here is a step-by-step guide on how to roll a preposterous, some dare say impossible, J. Let’s get this show on a roll! (Just give me that one; I’ve been waiting to say that this entire article.)
1. Prep the Paper
With your preferred paper in hand, lay it flat in front of you on a hard, smooth surface. Rolling papers have little strips of water-activated glue on one edge. Make sure that the glue strip is facing you and is on the inside of the roll.
2. Fill That Paper
Next, after grinding your bud with an herb grinder (more on those below), sprinkle the bud evenly on the spine of the rolling paper. But be careful not to add too much. Think of it like filling a burrito. When it comes time to wrap the damn thing, you don’t want that tortilla ripping. So, fill the paper with your bud and spread it out evenly. And remember: don’t rip the tortilla.
3. Place the Filter
Next, if you puff with filters, place a formed filter on one end of the paper. It should be snuggled up and touching the ground-up bud.
4. Roll With Your Fingies
Then, use your fingers for what they were designed to do: rollin’ doobs. Hold both hands up, thumbs facing you, and place the open-face joint in your fingertips. Then, roll the ground-up bud into a cylindrical shape, using the filter as a shaping guide. You might have some buds sprinkle out, especially from the ends. That’s totally normal. Make sure to roll over a table or tray to catch the strays and pepper them back in later.
5. Fold the Edge
Next, with your formed, open-face J, take the paper edge without the glue strip and tuck it between the other side of the rolling paper and the ground-up bud.
6. Roll, Baby, Roll
Now, you gotta roll, baby, roll! Use your fingertips to roll the J until you reach the glue strip.
7. Lick It & Stick It
Wet the glue strip with your tongue or a couple drops of water and firmly secure it to the other side. To strengthen the bond, run a flame from your lighter over the glue strip.
8. Light Up
And last, park the filter end between your lips and light up!
You’ve officially crafted your very first joint, doobie, sliver of peace, smoke show classic, J, a fatty, soon-to-be roach, and whatever else you wanna call it. With your new, bonafide rolling skills (and our expansive collection of rolling accessories), you can roll any which way you want!
Other Smoking Accoutrēmont
On your rolling journey, you’ll need a few things each and every time you spark up: rolling trays and ashtrays.
Rolling Trays
Our Rolling Trays come in three sizes (small, medium, and large) and three colors (green, yellow, and white). We’ve made these trays pretty deep with high edges and smooth corners, so you never have to worry about dropping bud again. Plus, these metal trays come with a lid, letting you stash all your smoking necessities in one place.
Herb Grinders & Stash Grinders
In your prep process, you need to grind those buds up pretty finely. Our 4-Piece Aluminum Herb Grinder is a heavy-duty option that’s made from aircraft-grade aluminum. This grinder fits and twists easily in your palms, catches kief, and offers delicately fine bud that’s ready to cheef.
Or, opt for our plastic UFO and Nūdle Stash Grinders. These grinders are a tad deeper, letting you hold more of your ground-up stash. The larger ones can also hold pre-rolled J’s—just a pro-tip.
Any Last Words?
Alright, you know how to roll a J (with and without rolling papers)! Now, sit back, light up, and puff away. Sure, you’re gonna practice rolling better joints; but save that for Future You. Right now, just focus on savoring your efforts and really dive deep into the experience you worked so hard to create.
Pinkies up, TRĒ Huggers!
Safe travels ahead (:
