Will Delta-8 Gummies Test Positive on a Drug Test?

Share if you care

Is there anything scarier than googling drug testing info? (I swear the FBI is watching!) Well, put down the foil hat and soothe those frazzled nerves because we’re giving you all the information you could possibly need on drug tests and delta-8 THC. Although hemp-derived delta-8 is legal in many places, due to the 2018 Farm Bill, it still might result in a positive drug test. How? Well, let’s just say tests haven’t kept up with the times. Even though delta-8 is harvested from the hemp plant, delta-8 still gets flagged by lab tests as illegal delta 9 THC. The reason for this is because delta-8 from hemp and delta 9 THC from the marijuana plant are very chemically similar. Most tests can’t differentiate between the two, so, you could be using legal delta-8 products and still test positive for illegal drug use. Dumb, right? If you know you have a scheduled drug test on the horizon, refrain from using all legal cannabis products, just to be safe (😔).

In this article, we’re going to dive even deeper into the world of delta-8 and drug testing so you can walk into any test feeling confident and filled to the brim with legal cannabis knowledge!

Oh Hey, Hemp!

H is for Heaven

E is for Excellent

M is for …

Okay, okay, we’ll stop with the terrible poetry for now, but it goes without saying that we’re big fans of the leafy green hemp plant. Hemp is a type of cannabis plant that’s packed with a variety of cannabinoids, like delta-8, delta 9 THC, CBD, and more. That law we mentioned earlier, the 2018 Farm Bill, ended hemp prohibition which is why you’ve probably noticed a big uptick in legal cannabis products on the market. Now, more people than ever can benefit from this versatile plant!

So, to dig even deeper, delta-8 is legal because, number one, the 2018 Farm Bill finally made it possible to farm and craft products from hemp; two, because delta-8 can be harvested from this newly legalized plant; and three, because the law is mainly concerned with D8’s big brother: delta 9 THC. So, delta-8 products are allowed in far more states than marijuana, because they originate from the far less regulated hemp plant. Delta-8 products allow space cadets a fun recreational way to enjoy legal cannabis!

CBD vs D8 THC

CBD is another cannabinoid that can be harvested from hemp, just like delta-8. CBD, however, is non-intoxicating. CBD is a more health and wellness-focused cannabinoid that may help you unwind, fall asleep faster, and minimize minor aches and pains. Delta-8, unlike CBD, is a recreational compound that will get you baked. That being said, if you’re interested in blending the health and wellness cannabinoid, CBD, with some of its naughtier cannabinoid cousins, you’ll love our Tropic Mango Delta 8 Gummies. These mouthwatering edibles combine full-spectrum CBD with delta-8, HHC, and THC-P for a third-eye-opening trip into the sun.

Let’s Meet the Dank Deltas

Alright space cowboys and cowgirls, let’s meet the wild, untamed cannabinoids that’ll launch you into deep space. We’ve filled you in on the therapeutic legal cannabis compound, cannabidiol (CBD), but now it’s time to talk about cannabinoids, delta-8, delta 9 THC, and delta 11 THC.

What Is Delta-8 THC?

Simply put, delta-8 THC is a recreational compound found in cannabis. It can be purchased in more places than marijuana, because it can be harvested legally from hemp. Delta-8 can be enjoyed with edibles, vapes, carts, prerolls, and many other products. If you’re looking to blast off into outer space, you’re going to love delta-8 THC.

Is Delta-8 Safe?

The magical delta-8 molecule itself is generally safe. The best way to ensure that you’ll have a positive and safe experience is to select delta-8 products from THC brands that subject their products to third-party lab tests (a Certificate of Analysis) and share the results of the tests publicly. This way, you’ll know that the ingredients listed on the label match what’s inside the product and that it’s safe to consume! As always with new THC products, start with less than the suggested dose to test how it affects your body. Then, the next time you use your THC item, you can add or subtract how much you use to customize your experience. Since delta-8 is a recreational compound, remember to save the driving and operating of heavy machinery for another day!

What Is the Difference Between Delta-8 and Delta 9?

Delta-8 and delta 9 THC can both be consumed with edibles, vapes, carts, and prerolls, so, what’s the big difference between these two recreational cannabinoids? It really boils down to potency. Delta-8 is usually seen as a more mild space ride compared to delta 9 THC. So, for nights when you’re looking to chill out, delta-8 is the delta for you! If you’re looking to test the limits of space travel, you can look for products with multiple cannabinoids, like delta-8 and delta 9 THC, to experience the mystical Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect is when multiple cannabinoid compounds are present and intensify each other’s effects and potency. It’s like the dankest dream time you can imagine. ❤️

What Is the Difference Between Delta-8 and Delta 11?

Delta 11 THC is a newer compound on the recreational market and it’s impressively strong; stronger than delta-8 and delta 9 THC. Delta 11 is usually synthesized from cannabinoids instead of being harvested directly from the hemp plant, so, if you prefer less processed compounds, it may be best to stick with delta-8 and delta 9 THC!

FAQs From First-Time Space Flyers

Are you new to planet delta-8? Well, either way, we’re happy to have you here! We often get the same or similar questions when it comes to newer space cadets and delta-8, so we went ahead and answered them here for your convenience!

How Long Does Delta-8 Take to Hit?

Planning ahead is always the way to go when it comes to enjoying delta-8 products for the first time! Similar to all THC items, there are several factors that may impact the answer to this question, including how quickly your body metabolizes substances, the dosage of THC in the item consumed, and your individual THC tolerance. With that in mind, you can count on feeling the effects of delta-8 edibles within 30 to 120 minutes, generally speaking, and when it comes to delta-8 vapes and prerolls, you should feel the uplifting effects within just a few minutes.

Will All D8 Products Make You Fail a Drug Test?

If you have a drug test coming up that you cannot fail, it’s best to abstain from all delta-8 products.

Types of Drug Tests

There’s a variety of clinical drug tests that are commonly administered, including, a urine test, blood test, and screening hair samples. Let’s discuss what you can expect from these medical tests.

Urine Test

Not to get into TMI territory, but this is probably the most fun method of drug testing (unless you really just enjoyed having your hair plucked or having blood drawn 😳). In all seriousness, urine tests are the most common way employers test applicants for drug use. Urine drug tests have a quick turnaround, so you’ll know within a few days if you passed or got a positive result.

Blood Test

Blood tests are generally the go-to for law enforcement, not employers. That’s because delta-8 and THC, in general, cycles out so quickly from the blood that it’s usually used to establish a “time of impairment” (think DUIs). Delta-8 and all THC can be detectable via blood tests up to seven days after use.

Hair Sample

Ouch! You’re pulling my hair! This test is the most exacting form of detection for delta-8 or THC use. Hair tests can detect up to one trillionth of a gram of delta-8 THC metabolites or marijuana metabolites present in your hair. Luckily, this form of drug testing isn’t commonly favored by employers. The detection window for delta-8 and THC is quite long with this form of drug test, so be aware that delta-8 can be detectable by hair sample up to 90 days after use.

There are also saliva tests, though those aren’t commonly used. Here’s a quick breakdown of the different types of drug tests.

Type of Drug TestTHC Detectable
UrineUp to 3 days (6 weeks with heavy usage)
HairUp to 90 days
BloodUp to 7 days
SalivaUp to 24 hours

*Results may vary.

Timing Is Everything When It Comes to Drug Testing!

If you’re trying to pass a drug test, timing is crucial! Read below to see how long these common cannabinoids are detectable via testing.

How Long Will Delta 8 Stay in Your Urine?

When it comes to urine, it’s important to note that delta-8 (when used only one time) is detectable in urine for up to three days after use or up to six weeks with heavy use.

How Long Do Delta 9 Gummies Stay in Your Urine?

Similar to delta-8, the length of time delta 9 THC is detectable in your urine depends on how often you use delta 9 THC gummies. If you rarely consumed delta-9 edibles or have only used them once, they should only be detectable in your urine test for three days after consumption. If you use delta 9 THC gummies daily, it may be detectable for up to 30 days after your last use.

How Long Does CBD Stay in Your System?

Were testing geared toward detecting cannabidiol, CBD generally is detectable by test for hours up to a month depending on usage. But drug tests don’t scan for CBD.

Does CBD Show Up on a 10-Panel Drug Screen?

So, this is a tricky one to answer. Drug tests are generally not looking for CBD, however it is possible that trace amounts of THC could be found in your sample if you use a lot of CBD products, especially if you partake in full-spectrum CBD products. If you’re nervous about your CBD item resulting in a positive test, consider using CBD isolate products. These items have all amounts of THC removed, making it very unlikely you’d get flagged for THC use.
